About the workshop
This is a fun, hands on workshop suitable for 5 – 12 year olds and their adults.
The workshop will begin with a short walk from the Old Potting Shed in the garden to the Cascade, one of Chatsworth’s best loved water features. You'll discover some fascinating facts and fun stories about the Cascade while you're there to provide inspiration for your art project.
Back in the Old Potting Shed, under expert guidance, you’ll experiment with coloured ink water baths to create a marbling effect that you'll learn how to print onto paper to create pictures or cards.
All equipment will be provided and you'll leave with your creation and the skills to try this activity at home, perhaps creating your own artwork or cards to keep or gift.
All children must be accompanied at all times by an adult.
Location and Meeting Point
This event takes place in the Old Potting Shed, which is located in the Chatsworth Garden.
Please meet at the top garden gates, by the Stables, 10 minutes before your session is due to start.
About the Artist
This workshop is run by Sheffield located studio Paperbased, led by experienced paper artist Kim Bevan. Kim provides workshops for all ages at Chatsworth and in her own studio. In her own practice she makes artist books which explore 3D sculptural folding techniques, and she creates unique artwork using paper cutting and printmaking.
Accessibility
The Old Potting Shed is an accessible, step free venue with baby change facilities. Part of this workshop will take place at the Cascade in the garden. The Cascade is accessible via a flat, step free path. If you have any queries regarding accessibility, please email education@chatsworth.org

A Celebrating the Cascade event
The Cascade is the much-loved Grade I water feature central to the Chatsworth Garden and has amazed, delighted and awed visitors since its inception in 1696. It is now one of the UK’s most important surviving late 17th century water features, and one of the few remaining early parts of Chatsworth’s formal gardens.
It is now in need of essential repair. Our Celebrating the Cascade campaign aims to raise a total of £2.5 million to unlock a £5 million grant from the National Lottery Heritage Fund. As part of this campaign, we're staging a programme of events themed around wellness, creativity and water-play for individuals and families.
The Celebrating the Cascade project is made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund. Thanks to National Lottery Players, the project is working to restore the Cascade, safeguarding it for the enjoyment of future generations and enabling more people to get involved with Chatsworth.
If you would like to support this project, please make a donation to Chatsworth House Trust here.
