Learn how to create, carve and print a linocut block this Christmas, which you'll use to print your own wrapping paper, Christmas cards and gift tags.
This introductory workshop explores one of the many techniques of printmaking, linocut. This is a relief printing technique where you carve your design into a sheet of linoleum using a selection of specialist tools, before adding ink and pressing against paper. The image that is transferred to the paper is your print.
You will be shown how to produce a lino print and then invited to experiment with this printmaking process, overlaying and combining colours, as well as preparing surfaces on which to print.
At the end of the session, you'll have a series of gift tags, cards and wrap in your own design, as well as a lino block you can take away with you to continue printmaking at home.
All materials are included, and no previous experience of printmaking is required. Please be aware that this workshop is intended for adults only (18+). Printmaking can get messy so please bring an apron or wear suitable clothing.
Meeting point and refreshments
The workshop price includes all materials, entrance to the garden on the day, a locally sourced graze box lunch from the estate farm shop and tea and coffee. A member of our team will be in touch to discuss any dietary requirements before the event takes place.
Please make your way to the top garden gate ten minutes before the session start time. Show your booking barcode at the garden gates to gain entry.
Accessibility
The workshop takes place in The Old Potting Shed, which is a step-free, accessible venue, located in the garden.
Please email education@chatsworth.org if you have any access requirements or require a carer to accompany you and we will speak to you about your needs.
