Event Details
Tuesday 18 February
Wednesday 19 February
Thursday 20 February
10am - 12pm and 1pm - 4.30pm each day | Free
This workshop is best suited for children aged 5+ years. Adult supervision is required.
Spend a morning or afternoon discovering nature's 'underworld' in these free family workshops staged over the February half term.
Based at the Stickyard, our outdoor learning centre, we'll use magnifying lenses to examine the fascinating world of moss, lichen and fungi.
We'll look at their composition, and discover how they use trees and bark to thrive during the winter months while providing a valuable habitat for tiny creatures and bugs (invertebrates).
We'll also discover what 'zombie trees' are and find out more about the unique habitat they provide, and you can also take part in woodland inspired art activities.
Optional woodland explorer walks will take place each day at 11am and 1.30pm.
Venue and Meeting Point
The Stickyard is based at the bottom of Stand Wood, next to the Farmyard and Adventure Playground. Access is through a gate to the right of the entrance to the farmyard, up a short steep hill.
Please arrive at the Stickyard 10 minutes before the start of each session.
Important Information
Children must be supervised during each session. We request that no more than two adults per child attend.
Please wear old clothes, sturdy waterproof footwear and warm layers.
This is a free to attend event and no pre-booking is required. Spaces will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
You may have to pay if you wish to park at Chatsworth, learn more.
Alternatively, why not travel by bus? There is a bus stop at the main car park, learn more.
Accessibility
There is a short, steep pathway up to the Stickyard. This is paved.
The explorer walks will take place on paths with inclines/uneven surfaces in the woodland, however these are suitable for most prams/pushchairs.
There is an accessible toilet at the Stickyard. There is no designated baby changing facility but there is a warm, private area available on request.
