SEND Provision at Chatsworth

Available for hire at no charge when you visit the house, must be returned at the exit.

Prepare for your visit by downloading our new visual story which provides visitors with an insight into what you might see on your visit to Chatsworth and how to prepare. This story is written in clear language with pictures.

Our SEND provision is designed to enable you to feel confident and comfortable on your first visit to Chatsworth. If you are planning to visit the house, you can borrow ear defenders and one of our new sensory bags at no charge. In the bag, you will find a selection of fidget toys and sensory gadgets. Some are shown in the image above but the contents might vary.

These bags can be reserved online when you pre-book your tickets to visit the house.  You can also ask to borrow one when you arrive at the Entrance Hall. Please note that unreserved sensory bags are allocated on a first-come first-served basis.

To enable other families to benefit from this free facility, sensory bags, their contents, and ear defenders must be returned to a Guide at the end of the house visitor route. Please drop them off in the Sculpture Gallery, before you enter the gift shop.

Speak to a member of our team when you arrive if you would like to know where to find a quiet space during your visit to the house.

There are also trails and activities on our website to download or print before you visit. Click here to find family resources.

Visiting at Christmas

Our Christmas celebrations run each year between early November and early January. This period is a very busy time at Chatsworth. The house is decorated with lots of colours, lights, sounds and new objects that can be overwhelming.

It is also a very busy time in the house with lots of visitors.

In the garden we have a light trail with some sound and projections. There are areas of the garden that are quieter and not illuminated.

Please speak to a member of our team when you arrive if you would like to know where you to find a quiet space during your visit in the house or garden.

We are here to help you enjoy your visit with us.
